Bengaluru to witness lunar eclipse on November 8; check timing, duration and other details of the rare occurrence

Bengaluru: On November 8, a total lunar eclipse will occur, and the rare celestial phenomenon will be visible from many parts of India at the time of moonrise. Residents in Bengaluru will be able to see a partial eclipse for about 30 minutes after totality ends.

The eclipse will begin at 5:50 a.m. as seen from Bengaluru. In Bengaluru, the earth's shadow will obscure approximately 23% of the moon's disc, as only the end of the partial phase will be visible from the city.

On November 8, the eclipse will begin at 2:39 p.m. The total eclipse will begin at 3:46 p.m. and will end at 5:12 p.m. The partial phase will end at 6:19 p.m., according to experts at Kolkata's Positional Astronomy Centre. The beginning of the partial and total phases of the eclipse, however, will not be visible from any location in India because the phenomenon will be in progress before the moonrise.

Although the eclipse will be visible from all parts of India beginning at moonrise, the beginning phase of both the partial and total eclipses will not be visible because both events begin when the moon is below the horizon in all parts of India. Cities in the country's east, such as Kolkata and Guwahati, will have a better view of the phenomenon. According to experts, there will be a total lunar eclipse in Kolkata until 5:11 p.m., after which the moon will enter the partial eclipse phase and become more illuminated as time passes.

After the total eclipse, other cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai will be able to see the partial eclipse. In these cities, the time from moonrise to the end of the partial eclipse will be 50 minutes, 18 minutes, and 40 minutes, respectively.

On a full moon day, a lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, and all three objects are aligned. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the entire moon passes through the umbral shadow of the Earth, whereas a partial lunar eclipse occurs when only a portion of the moon passes through the umbral shadow of the Earth.

The next lunar eclipse visible from India will be on October 28, 2023, and it will be a partial eclipse. The last lunar eclipse visible from India occurred on November 19, 2021, and it was a partial eclipse
